Austin received a birthday gift of money. He loaned $5 to his friend Drew and spent half of the remaining money. The next day he received $10 from his uncle. After spending $9 at the movies, he still had $11.00 left. How much money did he receive for his birthday?
let him receive $ x
loaned $ 5 to his friend
balance = x-5
spent 1/2 * (x-5)
he received $10
1/2*(x-5)+10
spent $ 9 for movie
1/2 * (x-5)+10-9 =11
1/2 * (x-5)=11-10+9
1/2*(x-5)=10
x-5= 20
x=20+5
x=25
He received $ 25 for his birthday.
