Answer by JBarnum(2146)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
first i make up an easy number for the population in order to calculate the percentage
i say there is originly 100 people in 1988
a 35% increase is 135 people by 1990
a 40% increase from 1990-92 would mean .4(135)=54; 135+54=189 people by 1992
so to find out the % from 1988-1992 we subtract: 189-100=89; take that number and divide by the original amount of people in 1988: 89/100=.89 then thake that number ands multiply it by 100%: .89(100%)=%
