Question 31761: The houseboat travels 100 miles downstream in the same time it takes to go 60 miles upstream. If the speed of the houseboat is 20 mph in still water, what is the speed of the current?
Answer by Paul(988)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the speed of the current be x
equation:
100(20-x)=60(20+x)
2000-100x=1200+60x
160x=800
x=5
Hence, the speed of the current is 5mph.
