Question 314109: jim has gotten scores of 95 and 91 on his first two tests. what score must he get on his third test to keep an average of 95 or greater? show your work.
Answer by rapaljer(4671) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I do this the easy way, with plus and minus points. If he needs an AVERAGE of 95, just figure each score as a + or - points from 95. The first grade is 95, so that is + or - 0. The second grade is 91, which is a -4 from 95. So he needs a +4 points on the third test to average to 95, so he needs 95+4=99 on the third test.
If you need an equation to solve it will look like this:
. This works well also, but it takes longer.
