a. Twice an angle is 30o more than its complement.
2x=(90-2x)+30
2x=90-2x+30
2x+2x=90+30
4x=120
x=120/4
x=30 is the smaller angle.
2*30=(90-2*30)+30
60=90-60+30
60=120-60
60=60
b. Three times an angle is 12o less than its supplement.
3x=(180-3x)-12
3x=180-3x-12
3x+3x=180-12
6x=168
x=168/6=28 ans. for the smaller angle.
3*28=189-3*28-12
84=180-84-12
84=180-96
84=84

Write an equation for each statement.
a. Twice an angle is 30o more than its complement.
b. Three times an angle is 12o less than its supplement.
i don't understand how to write the equation at all.

a. Twice an angle is 30o more than its complement.

Let the angle be A
Then its complement is 90 - A

Since twice the angle is more than its complement, then we'll have:

2A = (90 - A) + 30

2A = 90 - A + 30

3A = 120

Then A, or the angle is: = degrees, and its complement is 90 - 40, or degrees.

b. Three times an angle is 12o less than its supplement.
Let the angle be A
Then its supplement is 180 - A

Since three times the angle is less than its supplement, then we'll have:

3A = (180 - A) - 12

3A = 180 - A - 12

4A = 168

Then A, or the angle is: = degrees, and its supplement is 180 - 42, or degrees.
