Question 303236: The base of a triangle is 5cm greater that the height. The area is 42cm squared. Find the height and the base.
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A=BH/2
42=(H+5)H/2
42=(H^2+5H)/2
H^2+5H=42*2
H^2+5H=84
H^2+5H-84=0
(H+12)(H-7)=0
H-7=0
H=7 cm. ANS. FOR THE HEIGHT.
B=7+5=12 cm. ANS FOR THE BASE.
PROOF:
42=(7+5)7/2
42=12*7/2
42=84/2
42=42
