Question 292864: You are in a roomful of 35 people. Everyone is asked to shake hands with everyone. How many handshakes will there be? How can you figure this out? What strategies will you use?
Answer by brucewill(101) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The first person will have to shake hands 34 times.
The second person will have already shaken hands with the first one, so had to shake hands 33 times.
The third, 32 times.
The 34th, will only need to shake hands with the 35th.
Therefore, it appears to be 34 + 33 + 32 + ... + 1. (which I compute at 595, but you should verify that)
