Question 28496: PLEASE HELP ASAP: Two rainstorms occured in one week in a certain area. The first storm lasted 15 hours, and the second storm lasted 35 hours, for a total 1925ml of rain. What was the rate of rainfall for each of the two storms if the sum of the two rates was 75ml per hour?

Let the rate of the rainfall be x
We wish to solve the first strom at 15 hours so its 15x
And 35(75-x) because 75 is the highest value.
Total Storm 1 + storm 2 = 1925ml.
15x+35(75-x)=1925
15x+2625-35x=1925
-20x=-700
x=35
75-35=40
Hence for the 15 hours rainfall the rate is 35mlph and for 35 hours rainfall the rate is 40mlph.
