Question 283801: Hi! I'm not entirely convinced that the answer that I got, which is 6, is the right one, so I'd be really grateful if anyone would bother to solve this one. This problem goes like this:
A sum of $800 was divided equally among a certain number of children. If there had been 4 more children, each would have received only 3/5 as much. How many children were there?
Once again, thanks very much! :)
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(800 / n)(3 / 5) = 800 / (n + 4)
2400 (n + 4) = 4000n
2400n + 9600 = 4000n
9600 = 1600n ___ 6 = n
