Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
[X^2+(X-4)^2]/2=53
[X^2+X^2-8X+16]/2=53
[2X^2-8X+16]/2=53
2X^2-8X+16=106
2X^2-8X+16-106=0
2X^2-8X-90=0
2(X^2-4X-45)=0
2(X-9)(X+5)=0
X-9=0
X=9 ANS.
9-4=5 ANS.
PROOF:
[9^2+5*2]/2=53
[81+25]/2=53
106/2=53
53=53
