Let the first number by x
So the second number should be (45 - x)
Also it is given that first number is 9 less then the second number
so it means if we add 9 to first number then it would be equal to second number
x + 9 = 45 -x
2x = 45 - 9
2x = 36
x = 18
So first number is 18 and
second number is (45 - 18)= 27
