.
In your case: "distance" = 50 miles
and
"time" = 28 minutes
.
So,
Speed = 50/28 but this is miles/min we normally see miles per hour so we need to convert the units:

50 miles 60 minutes
----------- * ----------
28 minutes 1 hour
.
Notice the minutes "cancel" leaving:
(50)(60)/28 = 107.14 mph

This is a problem with units. To get the units right, just
make an equation with out numbers and only units
Let = speed in mi/hr
= (miles)/(hr)
= (miles) / (min)x(hr/min)
Notice that (min) cancel and I'm left with (miles)/(hr)
The problem gives me (min) and (hrs)/(min) is known
(there is 1 hour in min)

Simplify the right sides by multiplying by

mi/hr answer
This looks about right since
