x>60 then B
40x=1200+20x
After 60 people plan B is better
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The Birmingham Inn offers two plans for party packages.
Under plan A, the inn charges $40 for each person in attendance.
A(x) = 40x
----------------------
Under plan B, the inn charges $1200, plus $20 for each person in attendance.
B(x) = 1200 + 20x
---------------------------
a) Write an inequality showing Plan B less than Plan A for x people in attendance.
A(x)-B(x) > 0
40x - (1200+20x) > 0
40x - 20x - 1200 > 0
20x > 1200
x > 60
---
b) How many people must be in attendance at the wedding reception in order for Plan B to be the cheaper plan?
If # of people is greater than 60 plan B costs less than plan A.
