Question 238051: a solution is prepared by mixing two solution with sprit 20% & 60%..In
what ration they should be mixed to get the 50% sprit in resultant solution.

Answer by alicealc(293)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1st solution = x
2nd solution = y

20% * x + 60% * y = 50% * (x + y)
0.2x + 0.6y = 0.5(x + y)
0.2x + 0.6y = 0.5x + 0.5y
0.6y - 0.5 y = 0.5x - 0.2x
0.1y = 0.3x
y/x = 0.3/0.1
y/x = 3/1

so, the ratio will be:
solution 1(20%) : solution 2(60%) = 1 : 3
