Question 23259: Can you help me with this probability problem:

If P(A or B)=0.60 and P(A)=0.20, solve for P(B):

(a) Find P(B) given that events A and B are mutually exclusive -- The answer I figured out was 0.40.

Now I need help with this one:

(b) Find P(B) given that events A and B are independent.

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1st question: If events A and B are mutually exclusive,
P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B)
0.60 = 0.20 + P(B)
P(B) = 0.40
If events A and B are not mutually exclusive you
cannot tell what the answer is.
2nd question:
You are correct.
3rd question:
If P(A) = 0.20 and P(A or B)= 0.60, and if A and B
are independent you can't tell what P(B) is.
I think you are not posting these questions the way
they are stated in your text. Try posting again.
