Question 214718: Quadratics and complex numbers: Analyzing Quadratics in vertex form f(x)=(x-h)^2
Question:
A square manhole needs to have 3 inches removed from each side. If the area is to be 144 inches, what are the current dimensions of the manhole?

Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x^2=144
x=sqrt144
x=12 inches.
(12+6)(12+6)=18*18=324 in^2 was the original size or 18x18 in.
