: I have tried many ways to solve this problem but I can't. :
Suppose that your building a toolbox, which should be on a shelf that in 10in. wide. The toolbox is 20 in. long and 6 in. high. In order to have the volume of 960 in. cubed, how wide should the toolbox be? Will it fit on the shelf?

Answer by ptaylor(2198)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Volume(V) of the toolbox =Length(L) times Width(W) times Height(H) or V=LWH
Now we are told the length (20 in)and the height (6 in) and the volume (960 cu in). So our equation to solve is:
20*6*W=960 or
120W=960 divide both sides by 120
W=8 in----------------it will fit on the shelf
CK
960=20*6*8
960=960
Hope this helps---ptaylor
