Question 210688: The energy of an object has by its motion is given by the following equation:
E=1/2MV^2, where E is energy, M is mass and V is velocity of the object
A. what would happen tot he energy of this object if velocity were doubled?
B.What would happen to the energy of this object if velocity were rtripled and mass were tripled?
Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A. Double the velocity:
Substitute V = 2V
Simplify.
As you can see, the energy is quadrupled when the velocity is doubled. This makes sense when you see that the velociy, V, in the equation is squared, and 2 squared is 4.
B. Triple the velocity and triple the mass.
Substitute V = 3V and M = 3M.
Simplify.
Here you can see that the energy is increased 27-fold.
