complementary means they add to 90�

let f="1st angle" and s="2nd angle"

"Two angles are complementary" ___ f + s = 90�

"the sum of the measure of the first angle and 1/4 the second angle is 60 degrees" ___ f + (1/4 s) = 60�

subtracting the 2nd equation from the 1st equation ___ 3/4 s = 30�

dividing by 3/4 ___ s = 40�

substituting ___ f + 40� = 90� ___ f = 50�
