Question 19826: My son and I have been working on word problems for 2 days. Can you please help us with this question? The width of a rectangle is one-fourth the length. The perimeter of the rectangle is one hundred thirty fee. What is the width of the rectangle? We can up with 13 feet, is this correct?

Let length of the rectangle = L
Then width =
1/4 is One Quarter or 25percent of .25
Therefore width = .25L
Perimeter =130
i.e.2(L+B) = 130
Dividing both sides L+B = 65
But we know B = .25L
Therefore 1.25L = 65
L = 52
B = 65-52 = 13 which is what you have got!!!
