Question 188228: Can you help me with this question please? It's from a made up worksheet.
Suppose that the width of a rectangle is 2 inches shorter than the length and that the perimeter of the rectangle is 80.
Set up an equation for the perimeter involving only L, the length of the rectangle.
Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
Let L = length of rectangle
then from "width of a rectangle is 2 inches shorter than the length"
L-2 = width of rectangle
.
2(length + width) = perimeter
2(L + L-2) = 80 (this is what they're looking for)
