If you can buy 12 of something for $5.80, then each one of them costs you 5.80 divided by 12. Once you have the cost of each one, divide that number into the amount you have (7.00 in this problem) to determine the number that you can buy for that much money. In this problem, following this procedure will result in an answer with a decimal fraction. Since no one is likely to sell you a fraction of a hamburger patty, your answer should just be the integer part of the results of your calculations.
