Question 186708: The management of White Industries is considering a new method assembling its golf cart. The current method takes 42.3 minutes on an avearge to assmble the cart. The mean assembly time for a random sample of 24 carts, using the new method, was 40.6 minutes, and the standard deviation of the sample was 2.7 minutes. Using the .10 level of significance, can we conclude the assembly time using the new method is faster?

Here is an attempted shot at the question.....

A T-Test also One Paired Test
I: Ho: M< or eqaul to 42.3
Hi: M> 42.3
II. .10 with critical value of 1.319
III. t= negative 3.09
IV. Reject Ho if t<1.319
X= 40.6
M= 42.3
S= 2.7
N= 24
V. Reject Ho and conclude that the new method is faster.

Comment: If you test whether the new method is "faster"
your alternate hypothesis should be u<42.3. Then your
critical value will be negative and you can make the
proper conclusion using your test statistic.
------------------------------------------------
Ho: u = 42.3
Ha: u < 42.3
