Question 184781: Shampoo is on sale. The sign reads, "Buy one, buy the second at half price." What is the total discount on the purchase of two bottles of shampoo?
Answer by swiemers(10)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you have to pay regular price of the first bottle, you are going to pay 100% of the purchase price. If you have to pay half price of the second bottle, you are going to pay 50% of the purchase price. Then, to determine what your overall discount is, you would add the two discounts and divide by 2. Therefore,
100% + 50% = 150%
150% / 2 = 75%
So, your overall discount would be 75%.
Hope this helps! Good luck! Sandy :-)
