(1/2)x+(1/3)x+(1/9)x+1=x

(9/18)x+(6/18)x+(2/18)x+1=x

(17/18)x+1=x

(1/18)x=1

acres - acres = acres
x -[(1/2)+(1/3)+(1/9)]x = 1
x -[(9+6+2)/18]x = 1
x - (17/18)x = 1
(1/18)x = 1

Let = the total acres of land

Multiply both sides by

The oldest child gets acres
The 2nd child gets acres
The youngest gets acres

There is acre left for the Mother
