Question 177392: Need help setting up the equation to solve problem.
Your cousin works at a dog kennel and uses 8lb of dog food to feed four dogs for 3 days. At the same rate, how many pounds of dog food will your cousin need to feed 12 dogs for one week?
Answer by Mathtut(3670) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
we can figure out what it would take to feed 4 dogs for 1 day by dividing
:
8pounds/3days=8/3 of a pound per day to feed 4 dogs
:
now if we were feeding 12 dogs instead of 4 that would be 3 times as much food per day because we are talking about 3 times as many dogs. (8/3)(3)=8pounds per day for 12 dogs.
:
we need to feed these 12 dogs for 7 days so we multiply our 8 pounds per day by the number of days.
:
8(7)=56 pounds of food
