Answer by Fombitz(32388) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Rate multipled by time equals distance.
.
.
.
Let's call the distance to your house D.
On your bike your traveled (3/4)D.
You then walked (1/4)D.
Now let's work on time.
"my walking time was twice my biking time"
1.
Now we can put it all together and set up both rate equations.
Subscript b is for biking, w is for walking.
2.
3.
If you multiply both sides of equation 2 by 3 it will equal eq. 1,
3.
2.
2.
Now use eq. 1 and substitute for
2.
Your biking rate(speed) is 6 times faster than your walking rate(speed).

I had a flat tire after biking 3/4 of the way home. I walked the rest of the way home. If my walking time was twice my biking time, how many times faster is my biking speed than my walking speed?
:
Let 4 = the total distance, then
1 = distance walked
and
3 = distance biked
:
Let t = biking time
then
2t = walking time
:
Let m = number of times biking speed is over the walking time
:
Write a speed equation: speed =
:
bike speed = m * walking speed
= m
=
cross multiply
mt = 3*2t
mt = 6t
divide both sides by t
m = 6 times the walking speed = the biking speed
