Question 171701: Getting frustrated on figuring out the answer for the following/would someone please help me? Thank you.

1.A local caterer charges $8.50 per person to serve boxed lunches at meetings on campus, plus a $15.00 delivery charge for each event. Using L for the number of lunches served and D for the number of events delivered to, set up an expression that can be used to track catering costs.
?
2. Using the expression created in previous question, calculate the total cost to have a total of 33 lunches delivered to campus; 15 to a Monday meeting and the remainder on Wednesday.
?
3. A room that measures 18 feet by 24 feet will require how many square yards of carpet to cover the floor? (If necessary, round to the nearest yard.)
?
4. Which has a larger engine; my vintage Chevy SS (displacement of 327 cubic inches), or my daughter's newer Mustang (displacement of 5.0 liters) ?
?

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.A local caterer charges $8.50 per person to serve boxed lunches at meetings on campus, plus a $15.00 delivery charge for each event. Using L for the number of lunches served and D for the number of events delivered to, set up an expression that can be used to track catering costs.
Ans: C = 8.5L + 15D
----------------------------

2. Using the expression created in previous question, calculate the total cost to have a total of 33 lunches delivered to campus; 15 to a Monday meeting and the remainder on Wednesday.
C = 8.5*33 + 15*2 = $310.50
---------------------------------

3. A room that measures 18 feet by 24 feet will require how many square yards of carpet to cover the floor? (If necessary, round to the nearest yard.)
Area = 18*24 sq. ft
Area = 432 sq ft
-----------------------------
4. Which has a larger engine; my vintage Chevy SS (displacement of 327 cubic inches), or my daughter's newer Mustang (displacement of 5.0 liters) ?
-----
231 cu in = 3.785 liters
----------------------------
1 liter = 61.0304 cu. in
5 liters = 305.152 cu. in
-----------------------------
So your vintage Chevy has a greater displacement.
