Question 165776: This has to do with direct, indirect, and joint variation. Sorry but I couldn't find it anywhere and I need help desparately!
Here are the problems:
1. If y varies directly with x, and y=10 when x=15, find y when x=6.
2. If x varies inversely as y and x=2 when y=8, find x when y=17.
3. If y varies directly as x and inversely as z^2, and y=3 when x=2 and z=4, what is the value of x when y=9 and z=4?
Thanks a bunch for any help!!

Answer by Mathtut(3670) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. if y varies directly with x this means that as y increases x increases or if y decreases then x decreases. so cross multiply and get
and .
2. if x varies inversely as y this means that as x increases then y decreases and vise versa. so cross multiply and get
3 now y varies directly to x and inversely to z squared so
so
so
