Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A certain airplane has two independent alternators to provide electrical power. The probability that a given alternator will fail on 1-hour flight is 0.02. What is the probability that both will fail, neither will fail or one or the other will fail?
both fail: 0.02^2
neither fail: (0.98)^2
one or the other fails: 1 - [0.02^2 + 0.98^2]
