Question 155918: Find the value of k so that the equation below has the solution set {-5}.
4(x+3)=x(3-k)
so far i have this but my main problem is what is the definition of a solution set?
4x+12=3x-kx minus 3x from each side. x+12/x= -kx/x then -12/x=k

Find the value of k so that the equation below has the solution set {-5}.
4(x+3)=x(3-k)
---------------------
A solution is the set of numbers which make an equation true.
-----------------------
Substitute -5 for x to get:
4(-5+3) = -5(3-k)
4(-22) = -5(3-k)
-88 = -15 + 5k
5k = -73
k = -14.6
