let f="time to fall" and s="time for sound"

gravitational acceleration is 32ft/sec^2 __ h=.5(32)f^2=16f^2 __ sqrt(h)=4f __ (sqrt(h))/4=f

s=h/1100

s+f=4

substituting __ h/1100+(sqrt(h))/4=4 __ h+275(sqrt(h))=4400 __ h+275(sqrt(h))-4400=0

use quadratic formula to find sqrt(h) __ square result to find h
