Area Problems
solve.
The area of a circle of a radius r is given by the formula a=pier^2. Use this fact to find a formula for the shaded area in the figure below.
The figure is a big circle with a small circle in side of it. The radius is inside the small circle. The width is in the big circle. radius=r and width=w
The shaded region is the big circle.
I don't know if this helps at all, but I am hoping someone could help me!!

Answer by rajagopalan(174) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
It seems the problem of finding area of shaded portion of circle in a circle.
Area of big circle =pi(w)^2/4
Area of small circle=pi(r)^2
Shaded area = Area of Big Circle - area of small circle
=pi(w/2)^2-(r)^2)
=pi(w/2 + r)(w/2 - r)
in a nut shell pi times product of sum and difference of radii
Answer:
Shaded Area =pi(w/2 + r)(w/2 - r)
