Question 134439: The question I am having difficulty with is: The average of the first four of Arlene's Algebra I test scores was 89, and her average for the last three was 75. What was Arlene's overall average?
I'm not sure about the answer to this question as you are averaging four tests, and then three - do you average the 89 and 75 even though there were 4 and 3 tests respectively? I don't think it would be that simple!

One way is to just assume the 1st four test were all 89 & the last three were all 75:
there were 7 tests in all

Av = 83

(4*89+3*75)/7=(356+225)/7=581/7=83 is the average of these 7 test scores.
