I use what is called the constant of proportionality .
relates the variables in question.

------------------
How does (x) change when (s) is doubled?

doubles when is doubled
------------------
when both (s) and (t) are doubled?

is doubled in one case and divided by 2 in the other,
so the effect is and is not changed
