A chemist has 800g of a dye solution that is 20% of it original strength. How much dye must be added to increase the strength to 50%?

160+X=400+.5X
X-.5X=400-160
.5X=240
X=240/.5
X=480g OF DYE NEEDS TO BE ADDED.
PROOF
.2*800+480=.5(800+480)
160+480=.5(1280)
640=640
