There were some red blue and green rubber bands in a box. 2/5 of the rubber bands were red. There were 40 green rubber bands and 24 more blue rubber bands than red rubber bands. How many were there altogether.
Let total number of rubber bands in the box be x
2/5 of the rubber bands were red. (2/5) x
There were 40 green rubber bands
and 24 more blue rubber bands than red rubber bands
(2/5)x +24
(2/5)x +40 + (2/5)x +24 =x
(2/5)x + (2/5)x+40 +24 =x
(4/5)x +64 = x
x- (4/5)x =64
Multiply equation by 5
5x-4x = 5*64= 320
x=320
The total number of rubber bands is 320.
