Question 1207640: Hi
Mrs Taylor withdrew an equal number of $2 and $10 notes. She placed 40% of the 2 dollar notes in red packets. She then withdrew an additional 20% of the number of $10 notes. After the second withdrawal, she had 30 more 10 dollar than 2 dollar notes.
How much money did she put in red packets.
How much money did she withdraw at first.
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
this would be interpreted in a couple of ways.
this interpretation assumes that, once she placed the two dollar notes into the red packets, she did not have them in her possession any longer.
when she started, she had x two dollar notes and x ten dollar notes.
she then took .4x two dollar notes and put them in red packets.
she now had .6x two dollar notes and x ten dollar notes in her possession.
she then added 20% more ten dollar notes to her possession.
she now had .6x two dollar notes and 1.2x ten dollar notes in her possession.
the number of ten dollar notes in her possession was now 30 more than the number of two dollar notes in her possession.
the equation for this is 1.2x = .6x + 30.
subtract .6x from both sides of this equation to get .6x = 30.
solve for x to get x = 50.
if this is correct, then the answer to your questions would be.
How much money did she put in red packets?
she put .4 * 50 two dollar notes into red packets.
that would be 20 two dollar notes.
20 * 2 = 40.
she put 40 dollars into red packets.
How much money did she withdraw at first?
she withdrew 50 two dollar notes and 50 ten dollar notes initially.
that would be equal to 50 two dollar notes and 50 ten dollar notes.
that would be equal to 100 dollars plus 500 dollars = 600 dollars.
she withdrew 600 dollars initially.
if this does not satisfy your inquiry, let me know and i'll work on the alternate interpretation and / or any correction to this interpretation, if necessary.
