There were basketballs and footballs in a sports complex. The number of basketballs is 5/7 the total number of balls. If 45 basketballs are spoilt and disposed and the number of remaining basketballs is now half the total number of balls, what is the total number of balls left.
Let total number of balls be x
number of basketballs is 5/7 the total number of balls. =(5/7 )*x
If 45 basketballs are spoilt and disposed and the number of remaining basketballs is now half the total number of balls,
(5/7 )*x -45 =(x-45)/2
Multiply by 2
10x/7 -90 = x-45
Multiply by 7
10x -630 = 7x -315
3x = 630-315
3x = 315
x = 105 Total number of balls
105 -45 = 60 balls left
