Bob and John travelled from X to Y. The distance was 240 km. Bob started 30 min earlier than John

John's travel time was   = 4 hours.


Bob's travel time was  4 hours + 30 minutes + 30 minutes = 5 hours.


Hence, Bob's average speed was   = 48 kilometers per hour.    ANSWER
