Question 1200843: solved graphically algebra 1
Donna and Pat bought a used car together for $450. If Donna paid $110 more than Pat, how much did each pay?
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = what donna paid.
y = what pat paid.
x + y = 450
x = y + 110
replace x with y + 110 to get:
y + 110 + y = 450
combine like terms to get 2y + 110 = 450
subtract 110 from both sides of the equation to get 2y = 340
solve for y to get y = 170
x = 170 + 110 = 280
280 + 170 = 450.
solution is confirmed to be good.
solution is donna paid 280 and pat paid 170.
here is the solution graphically.
