Alex pays 1/4 of the cost, Brenda pays 1/3 of the cost and charles pays the rest.
What fraction of the cost does charles pay?
let c = cost of the car
c - c - c = Charles' share
common denominator is 12
- - = is the fraction Charles paid

Brenda pays 12000 more than alex. Calculate the cost of the car?
c - c = 1200
get rid of the fractions, mult by 12, cancel the fractions
4c - 3c = 12(1200)
c = $14,400 is the cost of the car
