.
Andrew spent $682 on a pendent. He spent 1/10 of the remaining money on a ring.
If he still had 3/7 of his money left. How much did he have at first.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let x = how much did he have at first.
Then (x-682 is remaining money after spending  $682;
     (9/10)*(x-682) is remaining money after spending 1/10 on the ring.
Equation
     = .
To solve, multiply both sides by 70 and simplify
    9*7*(x-682) = 30x
    63x - 63*682 = 30x
    63x - 30x = 63*682
       33x    = 63*682
         x    =  = 1302.
ANSWER.  Andrew had $1302 at first.
