Question 1169943: A bearing for a roller is .4 inches in diameter and .9 in. in length. The bearings are made from a material weighing 500 lbs. per cu. ft. Determine number of bearings in a 100 lb. container.
Check my calculations, please.
The bearing are cylinders. (I think).
Cylinder volume: Pi * r^2 * height (or length).
3.1416 ^ .2 * .2 * .9 = .11309 cu. in.
1728 cu. in. = 1 cu. ft.
.11309 cu. in. = .00006545 cu. ft.
.00006545 * 500 = 56.54 = 55 lbs.
55 * 100 = 5500 bearings.

I agree up to point where you calculate the weight of each bearing.
Since the volume of each bearing is 0.00006545 cu. ft, each bearing weighs:
W = 500 lb/ft^3 * 0.00006545 ft^3 = 0.032725 lb.
Thus, there are 100 lb/0.0327249 lb/bearing = 3055 bearings.
