Benjamin helped mr carter to sell some fruit.
He sold 2 more apples than oranges.
Each orange cost 3 dollars and each apple 2 dollars.
For every 10 fruit he sold mr carter gave him 1 dollar from the sale.
After giving Benjamin his money mr carter collected 62 dollars from the sale.
How many fruit of each type did Benjamin sell
:
let x = no. of oranges sold
then
(x+2) = no. of apples sold
then
2x + 2 = total number of fruit
:
3x + 2(x+2) - 1*} = 62
reduce the fraction
5x + 4 - = 62 - 4
5x - = 58
multiply by 5 to get rid of the fraction
25x - x - 1 = 290
24x = 291
x = 291/24
x ~ 12 oranges, 14 apples
