Question 1168916: Two mechanics worked on a car. The first mechanic worked for 10 hours, and the second mechanic worked for 15 hours. Together they charged a total of $1875. What was the rate charged per hour by each mechanic if the sum of the two rates was $160 per hour?
Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
mechanic A =x/hour*10 hours or 10x
mechanic B=(160-x)/hour*15x=2400-15x
That sum, or 2400-5x=1875
so 5x=$525
x=$105/hour for mechanic A * 10 hours or $1050.
Mechanic B's rate is $55/hour *15 hours or $825.
$105 per hour
$55 per hour
