Let x be the amount the sister receives.


Then Mark received  3x-46.


The total is


    x + (3x-46) = 78

    4x          = 78 + 46 = 124

     x                    = 124/4 = 31.


ANSWER.  The sister received  $31.  Mark received  the rest  78-31 = 47 dollars.
