Question 115971: I need help with a word problem. An arrow is fired into the air with an initial velocity of 64 feet per second. The height in feet of the arrow t seconds after it was shot into the air is given by the function h(x)=-16t^2+64t. Find the maximum height of the arrow. I thought I was to use the equations -b/2(a) in which I came up with 2 feet. is this correct? If not please tell me how to get the answer.
Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
:
You used the axis of symmetry formula and got t = 2 seconds which is the time that
maximum height occurred
:
To find max height, substitute 2 for t in the equation.
h(2) = -16(2^2) + 64(2)
h(2) = -64 + 128
h(2) = 64 ft is the max height of the arrow
