Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x hours* 6mph=6x miles
3.5-x hours*4mph=4(3.5-x)=14-4x miles
3.5 hours to cover 18 miles
so 6x+14-4x=18
2x=4
x=2 hours at 6 mph (12 miles)
3.5-x is 1.5 hours at 4 mph (6 miles)
