Question 1150734: If 118 people attend a concert and tickets for adults cost $4 while tickets for children cost $1.5 and total receipts for the concert was $334.5, how many of each went to the concert?

.

Let x be the number of adults.

Then (118-x) is the number of children.

The setup equation is

    4x + 1.5*(118-x) = 334.50 dollars

for the total.

From the equation,

    x =  = 63.

ANSWER.  63 adults and 118-63 = 55 children.

CHECK.   63*4 + 55*1.50 = 334.50 dollars.    ! Correct !
